Rescue farm takes in 26 starving horses: About 50
volunteers trained this week. Horses need round-the-clock care; to be
fed constant, small meals, mostly by hand. Rescue now housing 87 horses.

horses on the verge of starvation. Expense to bring horses back from
starvation between $60,000 and $70,000. (photo)
12/21/09 Maryland:
Whimsical Rescue aids horses: Gets about two
calls/week from people wanting to turn their horses over. Currently
houses 35 horses at three farms. Demand so high, it's running out of
space. Two spaces kept open in case adopted horses have to be returned.
Average cost to maintain animals at shelter is $7/day.
