5/22/10 Maryland:  Rescue farm takes in 26 starving horses:  About 50 volunteers trained this week. Horses need round-the-clock care; to be fed constant, small meals, mostly by hand. Rescue now housing 87 horses. Is set up to take care of 50 to 60.  (photo)
5/19/10 Maryland:  Maryland rescue farm takes on 26 neglected horses:  Rescue's resources pushed to limit after adding 26 horses on the verge of starvation. Expense to bring horses back from starvation between $60,000 and $70,000.  (photo)

Demand so high, it's running out of space. Two spaces kept open in case adopted horses have to be returned. Average cost to maintain animals at shelter is $7/day.   (photo)
