2/17/10 Missouri:  Humane Society retains possession of seized horses: 13 underweight equine found without food or fresh water. Care cost has exceeded $10,000. Man took in unwanted horses. Twelve carcasses also found.  (photo)
1/27/10 Missouri:  Horses rescued from Rosebud property. Gasconade County prosecutors said they expect to file felony animal cruelty charges early next week against a property owner in the death and neglect of 25 horses: 13 horses rescued by state humane society; carcasses of 12 others found.  (photo)
1/11/10 Missouri:  Springfield, MO vets seeing more abandoned horses:  Large animal veterinarians calling it a crisis:  more and more abandoned horses discarded in wild by owners. One found wandering on highway near Mark Twain National Forest. Good Samaritan spent $1,000 to rescue the animal.  (video)
8/8/09 Missouri:  Horrific animal abuse claims at Missouri farm:  Woman on outing with children found animal abuse and neglect. Not the first time owner has been accused of animal abuse, but county says circumstances not severe enough to warrant seizure of animals.  (video)

6/25/09 Missouri: Authorities investigate a sickly horse: A dozen phones calls claim owners of horses not providing enough feed for the animals. One horse died; owners burned it in a brush pile. (photo)

Humane Society vet (left) treating horse too weak to stand. It was later euthanized. County deputy investigated before Humane Society was notified.

West Plains, Howell County, Missouri
14 horses and one donkey suffering severe malnutrition, dehydration, long hooves,
parasites as reported by Humane Society of Missouri veterinarian. 

Investigated by Howell County Sheriff's Department. Owner, who was renting 20
acres where animals were found, has been charged with animal abuse and neglect.
Case pending while arrested owner obtains counsel.

Current Status: Judge awarded custody to Missouri State Humane
Society; horses remain at its rescue and rehab facility.
