AMH ID Number:   NV1

Lot:  4-5 year-old mare
Found:
June 24, 2009, 70-80 miles north of Tonopah, in the desert
Discovered by a rancher who went to gather his horses. The mare jumped a fence to get in
with his band of horses, then jumped out again. Rancher was finally able to corral the stray
and contacted a state brand inspector.
Condition:  Brand cut out of skin to obscure ownership

As of 6/26/09, mare was being held and cared for at a sales yard in Fallon. It is not docile.
In order to give antibiotics and treat the wound, the horse must be put in a livestock working chute. The animal will be advertised for six days as an estray in an attempt to find the owner.
If no one comes forward, it will be put up for adoption. The brand inspector says it will be difficult to find a home for this animal because it is so flighty. They work with horse rescues
in California and in Las Vegas, but they are full.

Nevada State Brand Inspector is contacting area newspapers about the incident and asking
for the public's help to see if they can find out who the owner is. If they can determine who abused and dumped this horse, the owner is subject to a minimum fine of $1,000.
