AMH ID Number:  WY1
December 2008
Lot:  2

Found:  Near Jackson Hole.
The state brand inspector suggested this pair be euthanized with "a bullet at the dump."

Current Status:  When the old skinny mare came to us she was listless and lethargic.

They were so skinny they had to lean on each other to stand up.
Four months later,
the filly is fully recovered and the other is gaining weight and feeling good.

Our local brand inspectors say there is a major problem with abandoned horses being
left in the forest in the summer; come fall they are starving. The inspector caught these two, advertised them, and when they couldn't give them away, gave them to us to feed.

A couple months ago, a BLM official in Lander said the way they catch wild horses now is to shake a grain pan at them. About half the herd will come running, some with shoes still on.

Since December 2008 we have taken in 9 abandoned/abused/neglected horses and
have taken in 30 bales of hay as donations. We have provided virtually all of the vet
care, feed, grain, and labor out of our own pockets. We started Jackson Hole Regional
Horse Rescue
as a 501(c)3.
We sure could use donations as we are running out of money.*
